On December 1, artists from the

Western New York Urban Arts Collective and

Buffalo’s Immigrant and Refugee Community

will auction original work to benefit

restoration of the African American

Cultural Center classroom building.

The 2018 Holiday Art for Artists Auction will take place from 6:30 to  9 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Unboxed Art Sanctuary, located in the offices of Outside the Box in the carriage house at 1272 Delaware Avenue.

“This initiative promotes the purchase of original work by    artists of color.  Original art makes a unique holiday gift and provides timeless legacy of cultural wealth to pass on from one generation to the next,” Glendora Johnson-Cooper, event co-coordinator, said.

Donation to attend is $25.00 per person and includes   hors d’oeuvres, beverages and holiday-themed music.     All proceeds   go to the African American Cultural Center to support the restoration of its classroom facility, located behind the main building at 350 Masten Avenue, Buffalo, NY  14209.

Twenty-percent of the sale of each piece of artwork will also go to the African American Cultural Center.

“In addition to promoting the sale of artwork by artists      of color, this event is a way for them to exercise social responsibility for the well-being of Buffalo’s cultural arts institutions,” Jessica Thorpe said.

Thorpe is the founder and owner of Outside the Box, the MWBE marketing and development communications business that mounts the event.

“Instead of asking for the usual gallery fee, which can be  up to  40 percent of the selling price, we are asking them this year to donate 20 percent of whatever they sell to support one of Buffalo’s oldest and most important East Side institutions,”  she said.
